Live, work, play. I'm interested in mobile software, travel, good film, West African music, Belgian beer, and many many other things.
Trailer for Kore-eda Hirokazu’s 2008 film Still Walking. It covers 24 hours in which a family history unveils itself. Second great Japanese film I’ve seen at the Rialto this month.
Saw Orchestra Baobab last night at Melkweg. Huge band from the 70s and 80s out of Senegal and surrounding countries, which reformed in 2001. So nice to see such a big crowd enjoying it. Great example of how musical influences not only come from Africa but flow back into African music.
Saw Amadou and Mariam play at the Paradiso last night. There are a blind couple out of Mali, but they’ve fused their traditional music with rock and blues styles to give it a very modern feeling. One of the most packed shows I’ve seen, and the whole crowd was into it, pulsing with energy. One of the top shows I’ve seen in my life, and i’ve seen far more shows that I could count.
Jay McNeely had hits in the late 40s, and he is still playing! Saw him last night, at 82 years old he played 2 sets of music, and spent most of the set dancing around in the crowd. Talk about having good genes :-)

Il Divo . Enjoyed this immensely . Music and cinematography were superb and perhaps not what you’d expect from a movie about a politician. This guy has been involved in politics in Italy from 1946 to the present day!
Tokyo Sonata. Great movie. A dark and depressing look at life, but it holds out a ray of sunshine in the end.

Agriculture’s been a horrible business for 30 years. For decades the money shufflers, the paper shufflers, have been the captains of the universe. That is now changing.

The people who produce real things [will be on top]. You’re going to see stockbrokers driving taxis.

Saw Beautiful Losers the Smart Project Space cinema last night. Such a great documentary over the creative spirit. Had a profound effect on my thought patterns this morning. Now I’m busy brainstorming some new ideas :-).

Saw this movie last week @ the Film Museum with my Cineville pass. Absolutely brilliant!
